Jazz and Lyra at the sea

It’s a tradition, during the summer vacation, Jazz, Lyra and their parents spend a week all together by the sea.

This year, they rented a house in Dahouët, near the beach and the port.

Downstairs there are two bedrooms for the adults.

Upstairs, there is a large mezzanine where you can climb up with a ladder.

The friends find two small beds: Jazz sits on the side of the ladder, Lyra at the back with the rainbow blanket.

From the window, in the morning, you can see the fishing boats coming!

Jazz and Lyra feel like lighthouse keepers.

First, with his binoculars, Jazz only sees the mast in the distance, it’s like his music box: he activates the mechanism and the boat turns around the earth by itself.

But, very quickly, Lyra distinguishes the sailor: she always recognizes him by his yellow raincoat!

Hurry! It’s time to come down…

The kids already know the local fisherman, Marvin, very well.

On the dock, they help him to sort the fish: this morning, thirteen haddocks with the dots on their necks, ten flat brill fishes, and… one, two, three, four… oh there are too many, they are mackerels.

Marvin explains to Jazz and Lyra that they often swim in shoals, that is, all together. That’s probably why they all get caught!

8 o’clock! The regulars will be here any minute now to do their purchases.

All the fish is sold in ten minutes.

It’s time to clean up thoroughly with water and prepare the boat for the next day early.

Oh! Did you see it on the bottom? Yes, there’s a brown bucket… Jazz noticed it too, he calls Lyra: “Ugh, it’s not pretty and it doesn’t smell good!”

Marvin shows him his sad collection of… trash: bottles, plastic bags, paper.

He confides that it is also one of his missions: to clean the ocean, the living environment of fishes.

Lyra admires him for protecting the sea this way, and she promises to always imitate him!

“Jazz ! Lyra !”

It’s now Lyra’s mother calling…

The picnic is in the basket and they must leave soon to fully enjoy the day. The discovery of the foreshore awaits the children.

In Brittany, the sea goes up and down: when the beach is large, it is the occasion to observe small animals hidden under the sand.

Jazz didn’t forget his magnifying glass! He moves like a detective, with care and caution.

Lyra, on the other hand, is more impulsive, her little bare feet are sinking into the wet sand.

“Ouch, ouch! Something pinched me!”

Jazz runs: with his magnifying glass, he discovers a small crab. Lyra is amused to see him run away diagonally. What a naughty creature!

The children run to the rocks and spend the afternoon climbing them.

How many spider crabs have they found? You can count them…

But it’s already time to go home before the sea rises.

The week is just beginning and Jazz and Lyra’s vacation at the sea is going to be full of marine pleasures.

Looking forward to tomorrow! ☼
